What is Madame Tussauds London?

Madame Tussauds London is a wax museum located in Marylebone that’s filled with replicas of celebrities from the world of TV and film, sport and royalty, as well as politicians and musicians. Each year, 2.5 million tourists head to this corner of the capital to be pictured next to their idols and, with waxworks being added and updated annually, there is always something new to see if you’re a repeat visitor.

Over the last few years, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Eddie Redmayne and Meghan Markle have all been immortalised in wax. As well as being able to see these latest updates when you choose our discount Madame Tussauds tickets, we offer deals on popular experiences at this museum, such as afternoon tea with the Queen.

What else is there to see at Madame Tussauds London?

In addition to the wax figures, there are also several rides and adventures to enjoy. There’s the Kong: Skull Island experience, which features an animatronic version of the ape.

You can also be part of a theatrical treat when you join The Sherlock Holmes Experience or hop into one of London’s black cabs to enjoy the Spirit of London ride, which takes you on a tour of the city’s past.

Add to this the educational part of the tour, where you can learn the tricks of the trade. For example, did you know that the team at Madame Tussauds take as many as 200 measurements to create a waxwork? The whole process can take up to four months and the average cost of a model is £150,000.

Who was Madame Tussaud?

While there are people you may recognise from today among the waxworks, there is also one person from the past that you’ll get to find out more about during your tour of Madame Tussauds London: Madame Tussaud herself. There is a room dedicated to the museum’s namesake and, when you learn her story, it’s easy to see why.

Having survived the French Revolution and narrowly avoided execution, Strasbourg-born Marie Tussaud then inherited a wax exhibition in the late 1700s. After taking it on tour around Britain, she eventually set up a base on Baker Street from which to display macabre relics from the French Revolution. It was moved from this site to its current home on Marylebone Road by Marie’s grandsons in 1884.

This tale is told in detail at the London attraction. Once you’ve purchased your Madame Tussauds tickets and you’re planning your tour of the museum, you can find out much more about this wonderful woman and her jaw-dropping life story.

How many other Madame Tussauds museums are there?

The Marylebone-based museum is one of several Madame Tussauds attractions that exist today, with 22 sister venues located in Europe and beyond. From Blackpool to Amsterdam, New York to Sydney, Madame Tussauds is global, but London is where it all began.

Can I take pictures during my visit?

You can take pictures throughout your visit, but if you’re visiting during a busy period you might have an allotted time with each character. The only part of Madame Tussauds London that doesn’t allow cameras is the Spirit of London ride.

What will I need to take with me on the day?

You just need to take your e-vouchers, which are the tickets we send to the email address you provide us with, as well as the ID of the booking lead.

Can I take a bag with me?

You can take a bag with you, and if it’s easier you can leave it in the museum’s left luggage area for a small fee. We wouldn’t recommend taking any valuables in with you.

Children are very welcome at Madame Tussauds London, however families with small children will need to leave their prams and buggies at the designated drop-off point.

Is there a limit to how many wheelchairs can be in the attraction?

Up to three wheelchairs are accepted in the museum building at a time. This is due to safety reasons. Therefore, if you think there will be more wheelchair users than this in your party or you want to make sure you can take your wheelchair in at the time you’d like to visit, be sure to pre-book directly with Madame Tussauds London.

It’s worth noting also that the Spirit of London ride is continuously moving and therefore not accessible. This is because of health and safety reasons.

There are plenty of food and drink outlets throughout the attraction, but if you’d like to take your own then you can do so. Alcohol is not allowed to be consumed, however.

How do I redeem my Madame Tussauds discount tickets on the day?

To redeem your voucher, make sure you have your printed voucher with you on the day. Take this voucher to Door 1 to exchange it for a ticket detailing your timeslot.

After you’ve been booked into your timeslot, head to Door 2 at the time listed on your ticket. Your timeslot will be subject to availability on the day and entrance doesn’t include access to the Aliens exhibition.

I can’t use my Madame Tussauds discount – what should I do?

We’ll then chat to you to find an alternative day, but you’ll need to transfer your date of entry at least 72 hours in advance of the original booking. You’ll be charged either a 20% or £15 administration fee – whichever is the greater.

If you want to cancel your booking, there’s a cancellation fee. Again, this is £15 or 20%, depending on which is the larger amount. Head to the Prices and Images section of our Terms & Conditions to find out more about admin and cancellation fees.
